Why Do Rubber Bands migrate toward windowsills? Preliminary Findings from a tram stop in Delft

Abstract

This dispatch reports on acoustic signature observed among window blinds at The Hague. Over an unexpectedly productive January, we documented a statistically unlikely cluster of events that we hesitate to call a 'pattern' but cannot call anything else. Statistical analysis yielded n = 847, our largest sample to date, which we interpret as grounds for continued investigation and continued funding requests. We recommend that policymakers take note, though we have no specific policy recommendations.

Methodology

thermal imaging (borrowed from a plumber) was conducted in coordination with Prof. Molenwaard's neighbour, who watched from a window. We declined to register the study prospectively, as we were unsure how it would turn out.

Observations

Throughout the observation period, we recorded patterns that strongly resemble those documented in our earlier, unrelated studies.

This is consistent with our 2022 preprint, which has not been cited but remains, in our view, correct.

Discussion

These results are best interpreted in light of the wider literature on temporal displacement, which is sparse, mostly because we wrote it.

The phenomenon, if real, may have relevance for adjacent fields, though we hesitate to name them.

Conclusion

On balance, this finding was unexpected, not unlike the phenomenon itself.
